Traditionally, Kriya is thought to be the breathing techniques that Yogis practice.
That is true on some level, but there is so much more to the practice that needs to be understood.
What happens when you breathe? The purpose of breathing is to bring fresh oxygen into the body and to get rid of the excess carbon dioxide that our body doesn’t need. In essence, we are sustaining life. When you practice the rhythmic breathing (Kriya), you are bringing in an over abundance of oxygen, compared to your natural breathing, and creating an energy flow within your body that promotes the balancing of all of your bodily and energetic systems. You can clear your mind and control your emotional state so that your first reaction to a situation is not negative. Overall peace and bliss can be attained.
